Preliminary Round
For the DVD recording, entrants should perform a programme entirely from memory. The time limit for the complete programme should not exceed 20 minutes:
1 EITHER: (a) The first movement of one of the following concertos :
Bach One of the concertos
Beethoven Concerto no. 1 in C major, op.15
Beethoven Concerto no. 2 in B flat, op.19
Beethoven Concerto no. 3 in C minor, op. 37
Chopin Concerto no. 1 in E minor, op. 11
Chopin Concerto no. 2 in F minor, op. 21
Haydn Concerto in D major
Kabalevsky Concerto No 3 in D major 'Youth'
Mozart Any of the Concertos
Shostakovich Concerto no. 2 in F major
Or 1 (b): The whole of the following work (Complete):
Finzi Eclogue
AND 2: An etude(s) from one or more of the following composers:
Bartok, Chopin, Clementi, Cramer, Czerny, Debussy,Liszt, Mozskowski,Prokofiev Rachmaninov, Scriabin
Semifinal Round:
A maximum of twelve participants will be invited to perform their chosen concertos from the preliminary round at Chetham’s School of Music on 17 August 2009 accompanied on a second piano.Candidates who offered single movements in the preliminary round from list 1(a) above will have to perform their entire concerto from memory at this stage. Candidates who offered complete works from list 1 (b) in the preliminary round will be asked to perform these works again.
