THE MANCHESTER INTERNATIONAL CONCERTO COMPETITION FOR YOUNG PIANISTS

Rules

1. The Competition is open to pianists of any nationality and is in two categories, 16 and under and 22 and under

2. 1st August 2007 is the date used for determining the age of participants in the competition.

3. Competitors will be required to choose a complete concerto from the repertoire list.

4. Competitors who are not ready to perform when called upon to do so may be disqualified.

5. The decisions of the jury are final. Any competitor who makes an attempt, or on whose behalf an attempt is made, to communicate with an adjudicator may be disqualified.

6. In each category prizes will be awarded primarily on the quality of performances during the finals. However the jury will also consider the quality of performances from the semifinal rounds in making their decision. Performances from the first round recordings will not be considered.

7. Rights in any Competition performance, recordings or films, belong to the Competition and no fee is payable to any competitor on account of these performances or any recordings or broadcasts of them.

8. Concert dress is required for participation in both semifinal and final stages.

9. Official accompanists will be available for the semifinal rounds, though competitors may choose to perform with their own accompanists.

ENTRANCE RECORDING
Competitors must submit either a DVD or VHS video recording of their chosen work from the repertoire list with their application. This may be with either orchestral or second piano accompaniment and must be performed from memory. A panel of three members from the Jury will then select twelve pianists in each category for admission to the semi final stages.

Entrance Fee
A non-returnable entrance fee of £50 (Fifty pounds sterling) must be submitted with all application forms. Cheques must be made payable to ‘Chetham’s School of Music’

Applications
The Application Form, duly completed and appropriately stamped must reach The Administrator, Manchester International Concerto Competition for Young Pianists, Chetham’s School of Music, Long Millgate, Manchester. M3 1SB no later than 1 June 2007 with the following enclosures:

1. Photographs: Two passport photographs of the applicant. As these photographs may be used for press and programme reproduction, it is important that they are not pinned or stapled to the application form. Please write your name lightly on the back.

2. Proof of age : A photocopy of the applicant’s birth certificate or passport must be enclosed as evidence of date of birth

3. Recording of the complete chosen concerto on either DVD or VHS Video.

4. Entry Fee of £50 (cheques should be payable to ‘Chetham’s School of Music’)

5. Two references from musicians of standing, one of which must declare that the recorded performance is genuine and unedited.
